WhatsApp issues privacy advisory for users amid Russia-Ukraine crisis
This follows Russia's start of a "special military operation" into Ukraine, with attacks coming from several directions and aimed at multiple cities. According to the company, it is taking several steps to combat misinformation, including increasing third-party fact-checking capacity. Meanwhile, Meta stated that, in addition to collaborating with third-party fact-checkers, the firm is taking steps to remove content that breaches its policy.

WhatsApp won't limit functionality for users till data protection law arrives
Days after the government directed the messaging platform to withdraw its new privacy policy, a WhatsApp spokesperson said the company has responded to the letter and has assured that the privacy of users remains the highest priority for the Facebook-owned entity. Its purpose is to provide additional information about how people can interact with businesses if they choose to do so, the spokesperson added. WhatsApp had been warned that necessary steps in accordance with the law will be taken if a satisfactory response was not received within seven days.

Not ready to accept privacy policy? WhatsApp will limit THESE features
WhatsApp will further let users call back a missed voice or video call and notifications will continue to come and users will have to read the messages, and respond to them as well. These things will only be available for just a few weeks as WhatsApp will eventually stop users from receiving incoming calls or notifications essentially cutting off services. Then users will be either given an option to accept the new policy or end up losing their WhatsApp account.

Big update! WhatsApp scraps May 15 deadline for accepting privacy policy terms
WhatsApp had faced severe backlash over user concerns that data was being shared with parent company Facebook. However, the company did not clarify the reason behind the decision and did not divulge the number of users who have accepted the terms so far. WhatsApp has insisted that the acceptance of the privacy policy update does not expand its ability to share user data with Facebook.

WhatsApp, Facebook petition against CCI probe order in Delhi High Court
This comes after the competition watchdog had said that the probe needs to be completed in 60 days. Both Facebook and WhatsApp filed the petitions separately but it was almost the same and they contend that cases on WhatsApp’s privacy policy update are already being heard in the Supreme Court. Facebook defended itself by saying that WhatsApp is a separate entity and that’s why the former should not be dragged into this controversy.

Restrain WhatsApp from implementing new privacy policy, govt asks Delhi HC
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology made the statement in its affidavit filed in response to a petition challenging the new privacy policy of social networking platform WhatsApp. The new policy gives users a choice to either accept it or exit the app, but they cannot opt not to share their data with other Facebook-owned or third-party apps. The matter is listed for further hearing on April 20.
