Father's Day 2023: Time To Heal- Consider The Mental Health Of Our Dads
Finding support can assist in reducing family stress through expert resources. Here are some mental health tips for all dads to help them better manage the parenting process while protecting their well-being.
Seek professional help if needed
Don't be afraid to contact a psychiatrist or mental health professional if you're stressed out, depressed, anxious, or struggling to manage your daily obligations. The right kind of care may reset your perspective and enhance your general quality of life.
"Supporting fathers' mental well-being not only positively impacts their own lives but also in turn, enables them to cultivate healthy relationships, fulfil their parental roles with greater resilience, and become positive role models for their children," concludes Dr. Gorav Gupta.
Find a vent buddy
Ask for help from a friend or support group if you need it. If not, turn to your close family. It may be quite beneficial to be able to express your sentiments and worries to a trusted confidant.
Maintain a balanced lifestyle
Put physical health first by embracing regular exercise and keeping a regular sleep schedule. Your whole mental and emotional health will benefit from a balanced lifestyle.
"They may silently carry the weight of financial stress, career demands, and the pressure to be the ‘perfect ‘role model for their children. These expectations, coupled with the traditional gender norms that discourage emotional expression, can take a toll on their mental well-being. So it’s important that we encourage open conversations about mental health, destigmatize seeking help, and emphasize the importance of self-care for fathers. It’s even critical that we provide safe spaces where fathers can freely express their emotions, fears, and vulnerabilities without judgment or shame," says Gorav Gupta, Co-founder of Emoneeds.
Build A Support System
Encourage your father to create a network of family, friends, and community resources so that he has access to them in times of need. Fathers frequently forget to communicate with friends, family, and organisations because they are too busy managing the day-to-day affairs of their families. Encourage him to make friends who are interested in the same things. Help him find a club to join, meet people at the park, etc.
Avoiding Catastrophising
Dr. Gorav Gupta, Co-founder of Emoneeds says, "While society celebrates the sacrifices, strength and resilience of fathers, it is crucial that we also acknowledge the unique challenges they face and consider their mental health as a priority.Fatherhood comes with its own set of pressures and responsibilities. Fathers often grapple with societal expectations of being providers, protectors, and pillars of strength, all while navigating their own emotional landscapes."
Overall Well-being
At different stages of fatherhood, stress is a common occurrence for fathers due to factors including financial hardship, work-life balance, parenting challenges, relationship stress, health concerns, etc. As they navigate the difficulties of parenting and its responsibilities, fathers experience stress.
Happy Father's Day
Father's Day is traditionally celebrated on the third Sunday in June. Although the actual day may change, this year it will be celebrated on June 18. Fathers especially value Father's Day since it celebrates and recognises their special role in raising their kids. Father's Day is an occasion to commemorate and show appreciation for the devotion, love, and sacrifice that single dads frequently make in caring for and providing for their children.
