New Delhi: Be it a birthday celebration or a farewell party to a colleague, having a cake at work is just some usual stuff that all of us have been been doing it.

But hold your breath, before going into another office party. As per a report from BBC, office 'cake culture' is putting Britain's health at risk.

According to Prof Nigel Hunt from the Faculty of Dental Surgery, at the Royal College of Surgeons, 'cake culture' is fuelling obesity and dental problems.

Professor Hunt stressed that consumption of sugary treats such as cakes, sweets and biscuits is stopping people from losing weight while contributing to tooth decay in adults.

Cake culture also poses difficulties for those who are trying to become healthier.

He suggests that instead of rewarding staff with cake, managers should reward them with fruit, nuts or cheese.

It is said that there were nearly 65,000 adults treated in hospital for tooth decay last year.

While he does not believe that such treats should be banned in office, he recommends some change in culture such as buying smaller quantities and consuming them only with lunch to reduce the risk.
