Women, take note! Conceiving in your thirties may increase your life expectancy

New Delhi: Women who choose to get married or have babies after they enter their thirties have often been criticised and reminded about their 'ticking biological clock'.

While the changing times have managed to change a lot of mindsets, there's still a long way to go. However, researchers from the University of Coimbra in Portugal have come up with a study that may actually contribute to changing the mentality of many.

As per a study, women who have babies in their thirties have the possibility of living a longer life.

For the study, researchers compared the life expectancy of more mature women with the age they had a baby and found that women who had children later in life were more likely to live for longer than those who gave birth during their teens and twenties, the Deccan Chronicle reported.

Normally, doctors advise women to start trying for a baby before they enter their thirties to avoid complications or problems in conceiving due to an apparent decline in quality and quantity of eggs.

But, the new study sheds light on the issue saying that women who conceive later in life and have a late baby are likely to live longer too.

As per the Deccan Chronicle, an expert believes that while there may be several factors contributing to it, one major reason women who give birth later in life tend to be of a higher social standing and have a better income.

Their better social standing and higher level of education lets them have a longer life since they can afford to lead healthier lifestyle.

The study was published in the Journal of Public Health.
