Mumbai doctors remove 1.870 kg brain tumour in 6-hour-long operation

Eleven bottles of blood were transfused to the patient during the six-hour-long operation and he was put on ventilator support for the next three days.

New Delhi: Doctors at Mumbai's Nayar Hospital have removed a brain tumour weighing 1.870 kilogrammes, making it one of the largest brain tumour in the world. Eleven bottles of blood were administered to the patient during the six-hour-long operation and he was put on ventilator support for the next three days.

The patient, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was rushed to the Mumbai hospital by his family as the treatment wasn't possible in his town.

In February 2017, doctors at a Manipal hospital removed a massive 16kg ovarian tumour from a 69-year-old woman in a surgery which lasted five hours, while in October the same year, doctors at the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital at Sion in Mumbai removed the world's biggest tumour from a woman's kidney which was 50 times the size of her organ.
