Washington: Democrat Joe Biden has won the US Presidential election 2020, he announced on Saturday (November 7, 2020).

"America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me," tweeted Biden.

Biden had a 273 to 214 lead in the state-by-state Electoral College vote that determines the winner and Pennsylvania`s 20 electoral votes put him over the 270-mark he needed to win the presidency, according to Edison Research.

"Worth every minute of the wait," Reuters quoted a Biden aide.

The 77-year old will assume office on January 20, 2021, and will be reportedly the oldest candidate ever elected to the White House. Earlier, Trump, now 74, was the oldest person to assume the presidency when he took charge at the age of 70 in 2017.

On the other hand, Kamala Harris, who was the Democratic vice presidential nominee for the 2020 election, will become the first woman, the first Black person and the first person of Indian descent to be elected to the position.

Biden who will be the 46th President of the United States defeated the Republican Donald Trump who was seeking his second tenure. Trump has now reportedly become the first incumbent president to lose reelection since George HW Bush in 1992. Bush was also a Republican.

An hour before Biden was unofficially declared the winner, Trump who is known for his outspoken remarks and has been seen saying 'stop the count' in the past few days tweeted, "I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!," which was again flagged by Twitter.

Several of Trump's tweets have been flagged by Twitter as "Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process."

Trump is also scheduled to hold a 'big press conference' in Philadelphia at Four Seasons Total Landscaping on Saturday.

Over 160 million record votes were cast in the US elections 2020 which took place amid the COVID-19 outbreak for the first time in the history of the US presidential elections.
