Left Front holds sit-in outside CBI's office, demands arrests in Sarada chit fund scams

Kolkata: Demanding the arrest of those purportedly figuring in the Narada sting footage and the Sarada chit fund scam, the state`s Left Front heavy-weights on Monday participated in a sit-in before the Central Bureau of Investigation`s regional office in Kolkata`s CGO complex.

Left Front chairman Biman bose and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State Secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra were among the leaders and hundreds of supporters present at the demonstration.

"The offenders in the Narada sting case should be immediately suspended and arrested. They don`t have any right to work as ministers," Surjya Kanta Mishra said.

"The Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) is saying that her party and government would go to the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court`s order. She can do whatever she wants. But I want to know why would the government waste the tax-payers` money to save the perpetrators," he said.

The protesters also demanded that the state government take adequate steps to return the money to thousands of investors who got cheated by ponzi schemes.

"Thousands of investors who lost their hard-earned money in chit fund scams should immediately get their money back. The High Court ordered the state government and the SEBI to take steps... The government agreed but nothing has been done yet. Can this government be trusted after this," Mishra asked.
