UP polls: SP-Congress 'unholy' alliance won't even come in Opposition, says BJP

New Delhi: Taking a sardonic dig at the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that this unholy alliance would not even become the opposition party in the state assembly.
BJP leader GVL Narsimha Rao said the fight in the polls is with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)."I am sure they (SP-Congress alliance) will not even be in the opposition.
That fight is with the BSP and Mayawati," he said.Calling the alliance `unholy` and a representative of `dynastic politics`, Rao alleged the Samajwadi Party and the Congress of being responsible for corrupt regimes in Uttar Pradesh and at the national level.
"The Congress and the Samajwadi Party represent dynastic politics in our country today. They represent the worst of politics. Both have actually been responsible for corrupt regimes in UP and at the national level," he said.
"The people of UP find this alliance unholy. These are the two most corrupt parties and communal parties which only work for vote banks. They do not look for the larger interest of the people of Uttar Pradesh.
They will be rejected by the people," he added.Expressing confidence of sweeping the assembly polls, Rao said the BJP will establish a model government in the state.
"We are fighting the elections to help the state get rid of the misgovernance it has been facing for the last 15 years and the kind of politics and `gundagardi` that were practised by Akhilesh Yadav. We will establish a model government," he said.
Further laying down the BJP`s agenda, Rao said their recently released manifesto is progressive and will be helpful in taking the state out of the `Bimaru` status.
"The BJP manifesto is a progressive manifesto that will take Uttar Pradesh out of the `Bimaru` status which it has remained in for the past few years under successive regimes of the BJP and the BSP. These parties have done nothing except looting public money. They never focussed on governance," he said.
"Our manifesto focuses on governance. And as a party we believe in the principal of `Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas`. The manifesto also refers to gender justice for Muslim women and certainly, Ram temple issue is not an electoral issue for the BJP. But BJP is committed to the construction of a Ram temple, a grand temple in Ayodhya under the constitutional orders by the court," he added.
Rao also took the occasion to condemn the Shiv Sena`s move to break its alliance with the BJP for the BMC polls in Maharashtra.
The assembly poll process in Uttar Pradesh begins on February 11. 73 constituencies in Western UP will go in polls in this phase.Uttar Pradesh is set to have a seven-phase polling between February 11 and March 8.
