BJP in progressive mode in Manipur: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Manipur Assembly polls throwing up a fractured mandate, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that his party is in progressive mode and would put forth its position regarding government formation tomorrow.

Imphal: With the Manipur Assembly polls throwing up a fractured mandate, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that his party is in progressive mode and would put forth its position regarding government formation tomorrow.

"We are still meeting with the people from the National People`s Party (NPP) and hopefully by today evening and tomorrow morning we will able to give you a very clear picture. 

As you know that we need 31 MLAs to form the government and we are in progressive mode and hopefully by today evening and tomorrow morning we will able to give you a very clear picture," he told the media here.

Sarma also rubbished reports of NPP joining hands with the Congress in Meghalaya.

"Whosoever has portrayed this theory, I still don`t get it. What was the logic behind it?" he asked.Manipur witnessed a nail-biting contest between the BJP and Congress. 

The Congress won 28 seats to the BJP`s 21 in the 60-member Manipur Assembly.Out of the 60 assembly constituencies, a party has to win 31 seats to form the government in Manipur.
