Assembly election results 2017: BJP sweeps Uttar Pradesh - As it happened

Lucknow: BJP on Saturday swept Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections riding on the PM Narendra Modi 'wave' and returned to power in Uttar Pradesh after a 14-year gap during which regional parties such as the SP and BSP had held sway.

Here are all the updates:-

-Final results for 403 seats in UP: Bahujan Samaj Party 19, Bharatiya Janata Party 312; Samajwadi Party 47; Indian National Congress 7; Apna Dal (Soneylal) 9; Rashtriya Lok Dal 1; Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party 4; Independent 3  

-We humbly accept this victory and will tirelessly work towards development: Union Minister Ananth Kumar 

-EC replies to BSP's letter alleging manipulation of EVMs, says no merit found in allegation and prayers made in letter are not legally tenable.

-Results prove that Muslims are not a vote bank and it’s a myth that I am a spoiler. The result proves it wrong: Asaduddin Owaisi.

-We welcome the public mandate, allegations of Mayawati ji should be probed: Lalu Prasad Yadav

-Akhilesh Yadav meets UP Governor Ram Naik, tenders resignation after his party's drubbing in assembly elections.  

- Latest results - BJP wins 287 and leading in 25, SP wins 45 and leads in 2, BSP wins 17 and leading in 2, Congress wins 7 and leading in 0.

- Will take the responsibility of the loss only after reviewing, says Akhilesh Yadav.

- Either the EVMs did not accept votes other than BJP, or the votes of other parties have gone to BJP in the EVMs, says BSP chief Mayawati. Most votes in Muslim majority constituencies have gone to BJP, makes it evident that voting machines were manipulated, she adds. I have written to Election Commission in this regard, people no more have faith in EVM machines, Mayawati further says. 

- The previous best showing by BJP in UP was in 1991, at the height of Ram Janam Bhoomi movement, when it got majority on its own winning 221 seats out of 425 in an undivided state.

- Gayatri Prajapati, who is absconding after the UP Police booked him in an alleged gangrape case and attempt to rape a minor, is trailing in Amethi, where Garima Singh (BJP), the first wife of Congress leader Sanjay Sinh, was leading.

- Ameeta Singh (Congress), the present wife of Sanjay Sinh is also trailing.

- The BJP and its allies consolidate their position in Uttar Pradesh by surging ahead in 290 of the 403 seats, going by trends available from 386 constituencies in the first three hours of counting.
