Chennai: As the distressed farmers continue to protest for loan waiver and drought-relief package, Tamil Nadu MLAs have given themselves 100 percent salary hike.
The elected representatives have raised their salaries by Rs 55,000. The MLAs will now be eligible to get Rs 1.05 lakh per month as salary.
The pension amount has also been hiked to Rs 20,000 from the present Rs 12,000 slab.
MLA Local Area Development Scheme Funds has also been increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 2.6 crore.
Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agrawal on Tuesday made a demand for raising wages and allowances of Members of Parliament (Mps).
Raising the issue in the Upper House, Agrawal said after the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, wages of MPs was less than their own secretaries.
Some section of the Tamil Nadu farmers have been demanding a drought relief package of Rs 40,000 crore, farm loan waiver and setting up of Cauvery Management Board by the Centre.
