Power generation stopped in Kudankulam unit-2 due to snag

The power generation in the second unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) was stopped temporarily on Tuesday following snag in the turbine of the unit.

Tirunelveli: The power generation in the second unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) was stopped temporarily on Tuesday following snag in the turbine of the unit.

The snag developed last evening and production was stopped from Tuesday. The unit had been taken up for repair, a senior official in-charge of the unit said.

The power generation in the second unit became operational on March 31. The unit was generating 930 MW per day.

KNPP units 1 and 2 have been built with Russian collaboration. The two units are the largest nuclear power generation units in the country. Units 3 and 4 are under construction.
