Naomi dropped from 7 to 12th position, ending her streak of 140 consecutive weeks in the Top 10, a streak that started on September 17, 2018. The Japanese player, earlier this year, had pulled out of the French Open and Wimbledon citing mental health concerns, and had taken an indefinite break from tennis after her loss at the US Open.

Petra Kvitova stormed into the last-16 of the ongoing French Open with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over her Canadian opponent Leylah Fernandez. Serena has remained one title behind Margaret Court`s all-time record since bagging her 23rd Grand Slam singles trophy at the Australian Open in January 2017. Serena will now resume her pursuit of a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title at the French Open, which is slated to take place from Sept. 21 to Oct. 11.
Azarenka knocked out Williams after clinching a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win in a pulsating last-four clash that lasted one hour and 55 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Belarusian has now set up a clash against Japanese tennis player and world No.10 Naomi Osaka in the final of the Grand Slam event.
