`What's New` is a new section in the Spotify app that eventually collects new music and content from musicians and podcasts users follow on the platform. The feed, which is rolling out globally over the coming weeks on iOS and Android, will be accessible via a new bell icon on the top right of the app`s home screen. A blue dot will show when there`s new content in the feed.
A podcaster could mark episodes as subscriber-only and publish them on Spotify and other podcast listening platforms, the company said in a statement. Online stores such as Apple's app store usually charge developers a fee for purchases made on their platforms. Spotify has selected 12 independent podcasters to publish subscriber-only bonus content in their existing podcast feeds, and the company will also expand the programme to more creators over the coming months.
The company said that it is rolling out a new feature through which listeners can easily sort their “Liked Songs” collection for every mood and moment through new Genre and Mood filters. These filters will change as the user likes new songs, Spotify says. For now, it will only be available in English-speaking markets, including the US, Canada, and the UK.
The feature is a lookalike to Snapchat Stories work and it's quite similar in functioning. With this feature, artists can put up short videos to “share intimate moments” with their fans on select Spotify playlists. This feature doesn’t have other specifications such as replying or reacting to stories that are available on platforms like Instagram.
