Rio Olympics News
Atanu Das has already become the only recurve athlete to have secured qualification for Olympics 2021. The Tokyo Games was originally scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020 but was postponed due to coronavirus. The Olympics in Tokyo is now slated to be held from July 23 to August 8 next year.
In September, reigning world champion PV Sindhu had pulled out of Denmark Open before agreeing to play in the Uber Cup, which was eventually postponed. Recently, there was a report which claimed that Sindhu had a rift with Gopichand and that she was not happy with the training facilities for the national camp. In order to work on her nutrition and recovery, Sindhu is currently in England and working with Rebecca Randell at the GSSI.
Sindhu is now looking forward to return to the game with Asia Open, which is slated to take place in January 2021. Earlier, Sindhu had pulled out of the Denmark Open, which took place from October 13 to October 18, 2020, owing to health and safety concerns amid coronavirus crises. In 2016, Sindhu became the first-ever female athlete from the country to clinch a silver medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
She is enjoying every bit of adulation that has come her way after playing a pivotal role in the Indian badminton team's first ever gold medal in a mixed team event at Commonwealth Games but doubles specialist Ashwin Ponappa had serious "self-doubts" about being able to make a comeback post 2016 Rio Olympics.
