ISLRTC, NCERT to sign MoU to convert ed materials into Indian Sign Language

As part of this MoU, educational print materials such as NCERT Textbooks, Teachers Handbook and other Supplementary materials and resources of Class I-XII of all subjects of both Hindi and English Medium will be converted into Indian Sign Language in Digital format. The signing of this MoU is a historic step as availability of NCERT textbooks in Indian Sign Language will ensure that deaf children can also now access educational resources in Indian Sign Language and it will be a useful and much-needed resource for dead students, teachers, parents and the deaf community. This will also ensure educational standardization of Indian Sign Language as mandated in the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020. This MoU will be signed in the virtual presence of Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Union Minister for Education, Shakuntala Doley Gamlin, Secretary, DEPwD and Anita Karwal, Secretary (SE&L), Ministry of Education.

NCERT 8-week alternative academic calendar for upper primary stage released

The Centre on Monday released the NCERT eight-week alternative academic calendar for upper primary stage developed under the guidance of the ministry. The alternative academic calendars for students, parents and teachers at primary and upper primary stage have been developed. The Education Minister said that the calendar will empower the students, teachers, school principals and parents to find out positive ways to deal with COVID-19.

NCERT adds abrogation of Article 370 in Class 12 political science syllabus

NCERT has revised a chapter in its Class 12 political science book, adding a portion on abrogation of Article 370 and removing the content on separatist politics in Jammu and Kashmir. The textbook ‘Politics of India since Independence’ was revised for the 2020-21 session and this topic is included in the chapter ‘Regional Aspirations’. The topic explains how on August 5, 2019, Parliament abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two union territories.
