Shipping Ministry waives waterways usage charges to promote inland transport
The government hopes that the decision of waiving waterway charges will attract the industries to use the national waterways for their logistical needs Water usage charge was applicable to use of all the national waterways by vessels, the Ministry said IWAI levies the waterway usage charges at a rate of Rs 0.02 per GRT per km for plying of Inland cargo vessels and Rs 0.05 per GRT per km for plying of cruise vessels on national waterways

The government on Saturday said it has started integrated cargo transportation along multiple waterways, with a cement consignment from the banks of Rupnarayan in West Bengal to Bhagalpur, Bihar.
