Since February 2020 a number of virtual meetings have taken place at the trade ministries level leading to the opening of new trade routes. India's commerce minister Piyush Goyal had visited Bhutan in February 2020.

PM Narendra Modi and the Bhutanese PM will launch Phase 2 of RuPay card under which Bhutanese cardholders will able to access the RuPay network in India. India and Bhutan share a special partnership, said the Centre.

Air transport bubble between India and Bhutan operationalised

The air transport bubble between India and Bhutan has been operationalized for easer movement of people between the two neighbouring countries. Bhutan is the third country in South Asia with which India has a transport air bubble. It already has a transport air bubble with Afghanistan and Maldives.
