Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery to start from June 16

It has now become mandatory for all jewellers to hallmark gold jewellery so that customers who go buy gold don't feel cheated and get pure ornaments instead. Gold hallmarking is basically a purity certification of the precious metal and mandatory hallmarking basically means that jewellers will now be able to sell only hallmark certified in three caratages 14-, 18- and 22-carat gold jewellery.

Good news for jewellers! Last date for compulsory hallmarking extended

All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council filed a petition in the Bombay High Court. The next hearing of the case is on June 14. The percentage of hallmarking centres available in India is about 34%.

Hallmark mandatory for buying and selling gold from January 15, 2020

Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan cleared out that from January 15, 2020, Hallmark will be mandatory for buying and selling gold. Hallmarked gold jewellery will now be available in three grades i.e., 14 carats, 18 carats & 22 carats instead of the earlier ten grades.
