Over 11.6 million content pieces 'actioned' on Facebook in India during Jan
These categories include bullying and harassment, child endangerment, dangerous organisations and individuals, and adult nudity and sexual activity. Over 11.6 million content pieces were actioned by Facebook during January, which included content related to spam (6.5 million), violent and graphic content (1.8 million), adult nudity and sexual activity (1.4 million), and hate speech (28,600). Facebook's parent company recently changed its name to Meta.

Twitter, Facebook and others remove nearly 100 posts after govt order
Twitter said it has notified the impacted account holders of its action taken in response to a legal request from the Indian government, while Facebook did not comment on the issue. Twitter removed or restricted access to more than 50 posts in the past month at the behest of the government, including tweets that criticized its handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this year, more than 500 accounts were suspended and access to hundreds of others in India blocked after the government ordered the microblogging platform to restrain the spread of misinformation and inflammatory content related to farmers' protests.

Facebook oversight board widens scope to rule on content left up on platform
Facebook Inc created the board in response to criticism of its handling of problematic content, but researchers and civil rights groups have faulted it for its limited remit. The move will open the process up for any user, including Facebook employees, to refer to another`s content, the board's administrative director, Thomas Hughes, said in a phone interview. The board said the new option was being rolled out beginning on Tuesday and would be available to all users in the coming weeks.

It has been under pressure the world over for its data-sharing practices as well as fake news and hate speech. CMA`s crackdown on Facebook coincides with Britain`s efforts to set up a dedicated digital markets unit within the regulatory authority to specifically look at governing digital platforms.
