Every year on February 21, International Mother Language Day is marked to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity as well as multilingualism. UNESCO initially proclaimed it in 1999 to honour the Bangladeshi Language Movement. UNESCO designated February 21 as International Mother Tongue Day.
