DoT proposes to drop Bharatnet rural broadband infra from asset monetisation
DoT has so far not raised any money through asset monetisation against the target of Rs 20,180 crore in the current financial year. 5,25,706 kms of optical fibre has been laid under Bharatnet project which aims to connect all villages in the country with a high-speed broadband network. The government has monetised assets worth Rs 33,422 crore under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) in 2022-23 so far.

Airtel has been allotted test spectrum in multiple bands by DoT. Airtel used equipment from Nokia's 5G portfolio. Airtel and Nokia were able to achieve high-speed wireless broadband network coverage of 40 km.

Minister of Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw took to Twitter to highlight the changes in the process. Currently, a subscriber has to undergo a KYC process that requires the customer to visit the ‘Point of Sale’. Subscribers will ab able to get a new mobile number from the comfort of their homes.

Unbelievable! Here’s how THIS fake telephone exchange in UP duped DoT Rs 50 cr
A raid was conducted by BSNL officials and Majhola SHO and seven SIM boxes, VOIP Gateway along with other equipment used to run the telephone exchange was recovered from the house. Malik, a resident of Moradabad, is a software engineer and had worked at an IT firm for 10 years. Officials said that his two illegal set-ups may have caused a loss of Rs 50 crore to the government.

DoT permits telcos to go ahead with 5G trials in India, Chinese vendors out
These TSPs have tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers -- Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT. In addition, Reliance Jio Infocomm will also be conducting trials using its own indigenous technology, said an official statement. The permissions have been given by the DoT as per the priorities and technology partners identified by TSPs themselves.

DoT likely to issue guidelines for telecom PLI within week
Telecom gear makers firms such as Ericsson and Nokia are keen to expand their operations in India, and global companies like Samsung, Cisco, Ciena and Foxconn have "shown interest" to set up manufacturing bases in the country for telecom and networking products for domestic and export markets. The DoT notified the PLI scheme for telecom and networking products on February 24, 2021, with a financial outlay of Rs 12,195 crore, over five years. The scheme for telecom gear manufacturing in India is expected to encourage the production of equipment worth Rs 2.44 lakh crore and create direct and indirect employment for about 40,000 people.
