Two doses from either the Oxford/AstraZeneca or the Pfizer vaccine are over 80% effective in preventing infection from B1.617.2 variant of COVID-19 The UK findings are said to be based on data from PHE and have also revealed that the two doses provide 87% protection from the B.117 variant

NCDC chief reveals UK variant of COVID-19, Double mutant found in THESE states

NCDC highlights that the UK strain of COVID-19 is more dominant in north India, whereas the double mutant COVID-19 variant is more dominant in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat. "The proportion of UK strain is declining in the country from the past few months," said NCDC director.

Karnataka reports first case of South African COVID-19 variant

The first case of COVID-19 infection from the coronavirus variant from South Africa has been detected in Karnataka, the state health department said in its bulletin on Wednesday (March 10). As per results of tests done on international passengers till March 10, one person was tested positive for the South African strain of COVID-19 virus, the health department added.

UK variant of Covid-19 has mutated again: Scientists

UK Covid-19 Kent variant has undergone mutation. However, experts found only 11 out of 214,159 samples with the E484K mutation. Early results from Moderna vaccine suggest it is still effective against variants with this mutation. Two new Covid-19 vaccines, Novavax and Janssen could be approved soon. They appear to offer some protection against the new variant.
