Haryana shuts cinema halls, multiplexes till Jan 12 in 6 more districts

The six districts where the restrictions will be applicable are Karnal, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Rohtak and Jhajjar. The restrictions were imposed in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat from January 2 to 12.

Centre asks Tamil Nadu to scrap orders allowing 100 per cent theatre occupancy

Tamil Nadu government allowed the decision to increase the seating capacity of multiplexes after the film stars such as Vijay requested to grant the permission before Pongal. Tamil Nadu is going to have its assembly elections later this year. According to the guideline given by the Union Home Ministry, 50 per cent occupancy in the cinema theatres outside the containment zone is allowed.

COVID blues: Low footfall in theaters hit low income workers

Himanshu Kumar from Bihar's Saran, who has been working at a multiplex in Bengaluru as an electrician for two years, had his payment reduced to 40 per cent during the lockdown and is still not getting his due. Arijit Shil used to work as a security guard at a multiplex in Madhyamgram in the outskirts of Kolkata, but he lost his job after theatres shut down. While cinema hall and multiplex owners wait for the audience to turn up, workers at these properties are busy figuring out how to earn their bread.
