Chinese apps thrive in India despite facing ban for more than a year
8 out of 60 apps prevailing in India are Chinese operated and they have reached a whopping figure of 211 million every month. Last year, the government of India had banned 256 Chinese apps using provisions of Section 69A under the IT Act. These apps include TikTok, PUBG, Helo, UC Browser, Likee, Shareit, WeChat, Mi Community and more.

Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre banned TikTok and 58 other Chinese mobile apps over national security and privacy concerns, TikTok India on Tuesday (June 30) released a statement saying it had been invited by the government to offer clarifications after it was blocked on Monday.

Explained: What will be the impact of ban on TikTok and other Chinese apps
Amid rising tensions between India and China at the Line of Actual Control, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre on Monday (June 29) banned 59 Chinese mobile apps including TikTok, UC Browser and Cam Scanner among others. A statement from the government said that the apps are 'engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order'.
