CDS General Bipin Rawat was a strong proponent of India-US defence ties and helped deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries, said a senior US official. “We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Indian Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 others in that tragic helicopter crash in India today," Ned Price said.

CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife to be cremated in Delhi Cantt on Friday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tributes to CDS General Rawat and others killed in the crash. "I am deeply anguished by the helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu in which we have lost Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and other personnel of the Armed Forces. They served India with utmost diligence. My thoughts are with the bereaved families," the PM tweeted.
