Young Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece survived a marathon five-set match against Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia to move into the third round of the Australian Open. In other major matches, world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and No. 6 seed Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic posted easy wins in the second round in Melbourne on Thursday. Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic grinds out a win, Venus limps out and mor
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic had to battle hard to reach the third round of the 2021 Australian Open. The double defending-champion posted a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(2), 6-3 over American Francis Tiafoe. There was, however, disappointment for the likes of Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams, who crashed out of the year's first Grand Slam. World number one Novak Djokovic pulled out of an Adelaide exhibition because of a blistered hand on Friday before appearing on court to play a set after all, helping his compatriot Filip Krajinovic beat Jannik Sinner. Djokovic was scheduled to kick off the 'Day at the Drive' event in front of a crowd of 4,000 at Adelaide’s Memorial Drive Tennis Club but pulled out minutes before he was due on court and was replaced by Krajinovic.
