Losses on Wall Street rip through Asian financial markets
The Shanghai Composite index plunged 5.2 percent to its lowest level since November 2014 and Japan's Nikkei 225 fell by an unusually wide margin of almost 4 percent. Markets across Southeast Asia recorded similar declines.

After a swing of nearly 1,200 points during the session, the Dow finished solidly higher, tacking on more than 500 points, or 2.3 per cent from Monday's close, to 24,912.77.

Asian stocks extended gains for a fifth consecutive day on Wednesday, as renewed optimism about the world`s biggest economy brightened the outlook for risky assets while the euro held on to previous gains as political concerns in France ebbed.
