Having knocked out high-flying Steve Johnson in second round. Federer, now in his 14th Wimbledon quarter-final, is showing enough mettle to suggest that another singles title could well be within reach.
Coming into the grasscourt major, Federer bagged four titles last year with a 34:6 win-loss ratio from 10 tournaments. Such form might as well make the Swiss the biggest beneficiary of Novak Djokovic's ext than 2nd-seed Andy Murray.
The only doubt on the 34-year-old's title bid is his ability to last five sets in a season beset with injury and illness. Blessed with a bullet-proof body otherwise, this was the first instance when Federer had to go under the knife for an injury.
With a little luck on his side, there is no reason why Roger Federer can't become the record 8th Wimbledon champion.
