New Delhi: On Sunday, world no. 1 Novak Djokovic became only the second man to with six Australian Open title. The result, many believed, was a certainty considering his recent domination.
He defeated Andy Murray in three sets, despite the Scots doing everything he could do in the last two last two sets. Again, the first set, which have done the enough damage to impair the world no.2's confidence, proved the deference.
Here are some the numbers behind the Serbian's domination:
Djokovic –
- has now won six Australian Open titles ((2008, 2011-13, 2015-16), matching the record of Roy Emerson (1961, 1963-67).
- owns 46 hardcourt titles, level with American Andre Agassi and only behind Roger Federer (60).
- has 11 grand slam titles, drawing level on the all-time list with Australian Rod laver and Swede Bjorn Borg. Ahead of him are Emerson (12), Pete Sampras and Rafael Nadal (14) and Roger Federer (17).
- has won seven consecutive tournaments.
- has won 38 of his previous 39 matches, since losing to Federer at last year`s Cincinnati final in August
- has beaten world number two Murray 11 times from 12 clashes since losing to him in the 2013 Wimbledon final.
- is on a 21-match winning streak in grand slams. He has not lost a grand slam match since he was defeated by Stan Wawrinka in the 2015 Roland Garros final.
- has held the ATP number one ranking since July, 2014.
- has won 11 major titles: Australian Open( 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016); Wimbledon (2011, 2014, 2015) US Open (2011, 2015)
