Thanks Piers Morgan, but two-medal India will celebrate Rio 2016 Olympics for PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik
When an outsider put the matter into a perspective – right or wrong, he was put to the sword, and was forced to take a tour of history, and also do extensive research on fields other than sports.
New Delhi: Small or big, life should be celebrated. That's what India did when PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik returned victorious from Brazil.
Then came a Piers Morgan tweet, categorically asking "How embarrassing it that?" to "wildly celebrate(s) 2 losing medals", which in turn became an insult to the "Country with 1.2 billion people".
Country with 1.2 billion people wildly celebrates 2 losing medals. How embarrassing is that? https://t.co/FYSBM7ErAf — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) August 24, 2016
But today, when an outsider put the matter into a perspective – right or wrong, he was put to the sword, and was forced to take a tour of history, and also do extensive research on fields other than sports.
An irrelevant Morgan instantly became a relevant outsider. In the process, he also became a topic of intense debate in the social media, even reducing the matter at hand — India's perenial poor showing at the Olympics, which we all agree is the greatest spectacle in the world.
The mayhem from the Indian twitterati was being justified, because it's about national pride. That's the general trend, thanks to easy access to the Internet, which in turn is the direct result of growing economy — that one reason, which was blamed for India's poor Olympics record.
Many 'illustrious individuals' brought in all possible topics under the sun vis-a-vis every conceivable field of human endeavour to define success.
How dare a resident of a country which has failed to win the world cup in the sport's they have invented comment other country's Olympic performance? That was the underlying theme when the 'trolling' happened. Yes, there was mention of that particular country's past.
Those parts were clearly irrelevant.
It's like justifying India's poor Olympics record, by saying England have not won the Cricket World Cup. How can it be of any relevance to India's pathetic Olympics record. That's borderline English fixation.
And what about the history digging? Everybody knows, British exploited India. And bringing that fact when talking about India's Olympics dreams is innocuous, but pretty lame.
Two medals for India at the Rio Games is not just disappointing, but it also fails to justify any logic. There are excuses galore, and the witch hunting will be there for few more months, then everything will be forgotten.
For the next Olympics is still four years from now.
Finally Morgan was forced admit his allegiance, publicly, on record, to India. He was right to say, “get angry & START TRAINING FOR JAPAN 2020.” In his defence, Morgan shared a link to "Medals Per Capita" with "Olympic Glory in Proportion".
Dear India,
I love you but in your hearts you know I'm right.

But yes, Morgan needs to join India's celebration. PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik and even Dipa Karmakar's performances in Rio were more than medals could justify. So thus, hundred other who have qualified for the Games. That's how India's Olympics movement will start.
Footnote: It's easy to become a nationalist, and jump into any debate which pertains to the beloved motherland. Because that's what the majority does. And there are jingoist too. But, that doesn't mean being a bellicose nationalist will make you a rationalist. What a country of 1.2 billion needs today when analysing something like the gargantuan Olympics failure is knowing the facts, accepting them and also admitting the possibility of improvement.
