History beckons as PV Sindhu takes on Carolina Marin in gold medal contest
Sindhu is the first Indian to reach final of a badminton event at the Olympics.
New Delhi: Indian badminton sensation PV Sindhu on Friday will play world number one Carolina Marin of Spain in the women's singles badminton final.
In the semi-final, the 21-year-old crushed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in straight games to secure India's second medal of the Games.
Sindhu is the first Indian to reach final of a badminton event at the Olympics.
Marin on the other hand also beat China's Xuerui Li of China in straight games.
On his daughter's performance, Ramana said, "Yesterday it was excellent performance. We are happy that the child made us proud."
The immensely talented Hyderabadi girl has done a notch better than her illustrious senior Saina Nehwal, who got country's its first medal from badminton -- a bronze in London 2012.
After her semi-final win yesterday, Sindhu said she would give in her best today to win the coveted gold medal.
"My target will be to win the gold and I will give my heart out. I feel I really worked hard each and every time. Everybody's aim is to get a medal at the Olympics, one more match to go. Definitely I feel that I've a chance," Sindhu had said.
The final is scheduled for a 18:55 PM IST start.
