Yelena Isinbayeva's anticipated return on hold due to leg injury

New Delhi: Celebrated Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva`s much anticipated return to action has been reportedly put on hold due to a leg injury.

Russian media on Saturday widely carried reports of the 33-year-old two-time Olympic gold medallist's latest developments even as the 2016 Rio Olympics looms large in their radar.

Isinbayeva took a break after winning the 2013 world championships in Moscow, and in 2014 she gave birth to her daughter Eva. But she revealed that she had felt pain in her leg while jogging.

"I was jogging when I felt pain in my take-off leg. I had to withdraw as I just cannot jump. It`s a recurrence of an old injury." ITAR-TASS agency quoted Isinbayeva as saying.

The current world record holder had been planning to participate in the Volgograd Governor`s Cup meet this weekend as a part of her preparation for the Rio Games.

But the athletics star still hoping to compete at Russia`s indoor athletics championships and the Russian Winter indoor meeting after undergoing an extensive medical tests in Munich, Germany.

In between, her Olympic dream could see an immature end if the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) doesn't revoke the provisional suspension placed on Russia following a World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) independent commission found evidence of "state-sponsored" doping in the country.
