There's no pressure, the whole of India is with me, says Vijender Singh ahead of fight with Francis Cheka

New Delhi: Indian boxing champion Vijender singh, who is all set to defend his WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title, assures fans that he's not under pressure at all as it just a sport and the whole of India is supporting him. The fight between Vijender and Cheka is due to take place on Saturday at the Thyagraj Sports Complex in New Delhi.

The 31-year-old Vijender Singh, who is the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific champion, currently occupies the 54th rank in his category and on the other hand Cheka, 34, is 52nd-ranked super middleweight (73-76 kg) in the world. The latter is also a former WBF world champion.

"There is no pressure. This is just a sport. The whole of India is with me," Vijender told The Times of India

As far as records of both the players are concerned, Vijender is still unbeaten in all his last seven fights with one KO match. Cheka, who hails from Tanzania, is a veteran with 43 fights with 32 wins including 17 KO's.

"It's less than 24 hours away. That will decide who is the best. So I am ready for that. I can't wait to be face to face with him in the ring." he further added.

Vijender is India's first and only Olympic medalist V in boxing which he won in 2008-Beijing Olympics. He has won Bronze medal at the games when he defeated Carlos Gongora of Ecuador 9-4 in the quarter-finals.

He has taken up professional boxing in 2015, and bid adieu to his amateur career as he signed a multi-year deal agreement with Queensberry promotions through IOS Sports and Entertainment.
