New Delhi: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley has found himself in a new controversy as former top cop KPS Gill has accused him of nepotism.
As per Gill's claims, Jaitley used his position as the advisory member of the Hockey India League (HIL) board to make his daughter, Sonali Jaitley, the legal counsel for HI governing body.
Gill has written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, seeking probe against the cabinet Finance Minister, according to a media report.
As per a report published in The Hindu, Gill claimed that Jaitley paid huge sums to get his daughter appointed in HIL's Legal Committee.
"Mr. Jaitley being a senior Minister in the Government should either resign as the minister or as the member of the advisory body of the Hockey India League," Mr. Gill wrote.
Gill has also asked the CM to scan the list of office bearers, various committees formed in HIL and misappropriation of funds.
Meanwhile, HI president Narinder Batra rubbished Gill's allegations saying it was just a "creation" by the banned Indian Hockey Federation chief to settle scores with him.
"The time that KPS Gill is talking about, we had a number of cases to fight. To be precise we had 22 cases to fight in that period in different places of the country, so we had to hire a lot of lawyers and lot of law firms. Jaitley and Bakshi firm was one of them. The money that went to them was hardly 2 per cent. So I don't know where the conflict of interest comes from," Batra said, rubbishing Gill's claims.
Gill has come up with a a fresh attack on Jaitley who has been accused by AAP, Congress and BJP MP Kirti Azad of "shielding corruption" when he was the president of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
