New Delhi: After making headlines for all the good reasons, Robert Lewandowski has found himself on the wrong side of Polish law.
According to reports, the Bayern Munich striker was reported anonymously for having a swig of celebratory champagne after gaining an automatic qualification for Euro 2016 earlier this month. And the police are expected to follow the due course to action against the player.
The prolific striker led his country a crucial 2-1 victory, he himself scoring the winner in the 42nd minute, over Ireland. The win helped Poland finish second to Germany in Group D, with 21 points and sealed their France place by three points ahead of Ireland.
In an act of genuine revelry, the 27-year-old was seen downing the bubbly downing on the pitch of Warsaw's National Stadium after the win. But, unluckily, it’s illegal to drink alcohol in public spaces in Poland.
However, Lewandowski's agent and former national team striker Cezary Kucharski, came to the player's rescue and request the Polish FA to deal with the situation themselves and spare his famous agent such trifle matters.
"We don't take this matter seriously. I hope that the FA will strive to ensure that they can explain the situation. I don't want Robert to have to bother with such trifle," Polish website SportoweFakty quoted Kucharski as saying.
Lewandowski was expected to play a crucial role in the match, after having scored 15th goal in six games before the Warsaw match. The former Borrusia Dortmund striker became a household name in football after his brilliant scoring form.
His team-mate Grzegorz Krychowiak also pitched in his support for Lewandowski, and in a tweet the Sevilla player who scored the first goal in their 2-1 win, said something along the lines of 'Thank God I didn't drink the champagne or I'll be in serious trouble', followed by a string of laughing emoji.
Dzieki bogu ze nie napilem sie szampana bylbym w powaznych tarapatach #totalnabzdura #nuda

As a part of the bear loving Bavarian outfit Bayern, the Polish captain have had his fair share of well publicised beer drinking sessions in Germany, pre-season outings and attending the famous Oktoberfest with clubs mates.
