New Delhi: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp needs to be lauded as his side took their League Cup finale revenge against Manchester City by blanking them 3-0 at Anfield in a Premier League encounter on Wednesday.
This was a game of high pressing and counter-attacking football which saw the Reds earn their double over City this season. Klopp had dented Manuel Pellegrini's side 4-1 at the Etihad earlier in November 2015 and City did little to convince that they had learnt from their mistakes.
Liverpool created enough problems for City with their pace and one could tell there was a huge sense of belief in the side brought by Klopp, who congratulated every player on the pitch after the game.
Liverpool won majority of all the balls and kept City at bay with some notable and neat play. The Reds lost to the same side in the League Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, after extra-time on penalties.
Klopp was happy after his side responded in a convincing fashion and gave their fans a lot to cheer for.
He went on to say in his post-match conference that it was the best pressing performance under him.
"I think this was the best pressing performance we have done. City had no time to play football," Klopp said.
Liverpool took advantage of a tired looking City and despite playing the same number of games as their opponent, the freshness and attitude was a big surprise.
City's title ambitions has taken a blow as they lie fourth with Manchester United levelling them on points, although they have played a game more.
Pellegrini's side failed to take advantage as all top three sides Leicester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur dropped points in the midweek fixtures.
City have been poor against top teams this season and it is a sign of worry for the outgoing Pellegrini. Interestingly, renouned manager Pep Guardiola, who is set to replace the Chilean, might not see his new side in the Champions League next term as race for top four has taken a new twist.
