But this summer, that 120-year-old record can be broken if Yasir Shah continues his brilliant start to the Test series in England.
Yes, the record. The Pakistan leg-spinner – currently playing his 13th Test, and his first outside Asia — needs another 19 wickets to reach 100 in world record time.
And Pakistan has five innings left in the tour. In fact, he can still afford to go slow as can break the record in seven innings.
The fastest man to 100 Test wickets is George Lohmann. The England great took 112 wickets at the extraordinary average of 10.75, with his 100th scalp coming in his 16th Test.
On Friday, Shah toyed with England line-up, taking six wickets at Lord's.
The 30-year-old made his Test debut in 2014 against Australia at Dubai. And so far, he has managed five five-wicket haul in 24 innings.
