On this day: Don Bradman made his debut for Australia, was dropped for next Test

New Delhi: Legendary Australia batsman Don Bradman made his Tebut on this day against England at Brisbane in 1928.

Widely regarded as the greatest batsman of all time, Bradman scored 18 runs in the first innings followed by a 1-run knock in the second.

Even though the selectors dropped him for the next Test, little did they know about the potential of the great Aussie.

After missing out on the 2nd Test, Bradman made a comeback at Melbourne where he smashed 79 and 112 runs in both the innings respectively.

In his last Test innings, Bradman needed to score 4 runs to complete a batting average of 100! Unfortunately, he was dismissed for a duck, thus retiring at an average of 99.94!

One year post his retirement, he received knighthood for his outstanding contribution to the game of cricket.

In 52 Tests, he scored 6996 runs with 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries.
