Matthew Wade suffers broken collarbone in Sheffield Shield nets

New Delhi: Victoria captain Matthew Wade suffered a fractured collarbone while batting in the nets before first day's play of the Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday.

The 27-year-old wicketkeeper, who has played 12 Tests for Australia, faces a lengthy period on the sidelines following the injury. Cricket Victoria confirmed that their skipper had gone for scans immediately, which revealed the injury.

A report in ESPNCricinfo quoted team physiotherapist Nick Adcock as saying, "Matt will get further medical advice on Monday to determine the extent of the injury and recovery period."

The Left-hand batsman was hoping to impress Australian selectors with a strong performance in the domestic tournament for a comeback into the national side.

He last played a Test cricket in March 2013, during Australia's tour of India.

Peter Nevill is currently donning the wicket-keeper's gloves for Australia against New Zealand.
