New Delhi: Justice (retired) Mukul Mudgal, who was directed by the Delhi High Court to oversee preparations for the ICC World Twenty20 at the DDCA, said that it was a big relief as matches are being held at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
Delhi was under a cloud of uncertainty with all the issues surrounding the DDCA, but the ICC decided to go on with hoisting matches here. The DDCA had to obtain multiple permissions from various government agencies in order to host the matches.
According to a report in The Indian Express, Mudgal said that working with DDCA is a learning curve as it poses many challenges.
“It is a big relief that the World T20 matches are being hosted at Kotla. Working with the DDCA is a learning curve and it poses many challenges,” he said.
Mudgal also said that he hopes everything will go smoothly during the World Cup given the multiple authorities which are to be dealt with here in Kotla.
“Delhi as a venue has its own problems because of the multiple authorities which are to be dealt with. Hopefully everything will go smoothly,” Mudgal said.
Mudgal made several key decisions and a major one was to cut down on the number of complimentary passes being issued to office-bearers and directors.
Mudgal added that taking such a decision could make him unpopular in DDCA.
“I have reduced the complimentary passes. I am not sure if I am a very popular person in DDCA. If you take right decisions such as cutting down on complimentary passes then you become unpopular. It is not that DDCA does not have good people. There are good people who have worked very hard to ensure that the DDCA can host the World T20 games. But I hope that their number increases,” Mudgal said.
Reports claim that the passes which have been denied to office bearers, have been issued to cricketers, including Test players, Ranji Trophy players, Under-19, Under-22, junior players and all women players who have represented Delhi and India on the other hand.
