Asia Cup 2016, ICC World Twenty20 on Waqar Younis' mind, not extension of coaching contract
Waqar's contract will be extended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the tour of England.
New Delhi: Pakistan cricket coach Waqar Younis said he was focusing on preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup and the ICC World Twenty20 and not thinking about a contract extension that is set to expire in May.
"I have still three to four months of my contract left and right now I haven't given a thought to the future," he said.
Waqar's contract will be extended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the tour of England. PCB chairman Shahryar Khan had stated that the decision was decided to extend the contract of Waqar. The England series lasts from July to September.
Waqar also stated that coaching of any team is always a tough job, but he enjoys this challenge.
"Coaching of any team is always a tough job. It doesn't matter whether you do well or disappoint. It is a tough job and I knew about this when I accepted this challenge. I enjoy taking up tough challenges," Waqar said.
There can also be changes in the Pakistan squad before the ICC T20 World Cup on March 8, and Waqar said he wants to see how the team performs in the Asia Cup.
"Yes, changes could be there but right now we have to see how the team performs in the Asia Cup. The selectors have done their job and we will have to see how the new players perform," he said.
The Asia Cup features India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and a qualifying team.
