From Japan's Shinzo Abe to Indira Gandhi, politicians who were fatally shot -in Pics

A man opened fire on Japan's ex-Prime Minister, 67-year-old Shinzo Abe, from behind with an apparently homemade gun as he spoke at a drab traffic island in the western city of Nara in Japan on July 8, 2022. It was the first assassination of a sitting or former Japanese premier since the days of prewar militarism in the 1930s. Police said a 41-year-old man suspected of carrying out the shooting had been arrested. 

Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shot dead, sending shockwaves across the nation. Her Sikh bodyguards Satwant Singh and Beant Singh opened fire on her following Operation Blue Star -  an Indian military action ordered by Indira Gandhi to remove Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his followers from the Golden Temple of Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, Punjab. She was hit by 30 bullets.

Two-time Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, was killed on December 27, 2007. Gun shots were fired at her following a political rally at Liaqat National Bagh. A suicide bomb was also detonated immediately following the shooting. 

The 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy died after he was fatally shot in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza. His wife Jacqueline, Texas Governor John Connally and Connally's wife Nellie were in the vehicle when he was shot fatally. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

At the age of 78, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in the compound of Birla House, a large mansion in central New Delhi. He was assassinated by Nathuram Vinayak Godse on 30 January 1948. 

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was shot by John Wilkes Booth, an actor and Confederate sympathizer. He died from the bullet wound.

The iconic American Baptist minister and civil rights activist was shot fatally on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. Martin Luther King Jr was only 39 and was fatally shot by James Earl Ray when he was standing at his motel's balcony.

 

Singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in his car on May 29 2022 near his native village in Mansa district. Punjab Police is investigating the role of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's role in the killing.
