Due to their great contributions to the country, some Indian cricketers and other big sportspersons have earned the honorary rank from the Indian armed forces, and some of them even served in the Indian armed forces.

The legendary batter became the first sportsperson to confer honorary and first person without an aviation background to receive this honour.
