Waste To Wonder: Get Gold For Plastic In This Indian Town; Your Chance To Become Millionaire?

The village of Sadiwara in Anantnag, South Kashmir, introduced a unique campaign where residents receive a gold coin in exchange for 20 quintals of plastic waste. 

The campaign, led by the village's Sarpanch, Farooq Ahmad Ganie, aimed to tackle plastic pollution and was remarkably successful, making the village plastic-free within 15 days. 

The plastic waste must be collected from within the village to qualify for the gold coin reward. Even outsiders can participate, but they must gather waste locally. 

The initiative not only eliminated plastic waste but also led to a complete absence of visible garbage in the village, significantly improving cleanliness. 

The campaign received strong support from the villagers and neighboring Panchayats, leading to widespread adoption of similar initiatives in the region. 

The campaign turned many residents into instant millionaires, significantly improving the economic status of the villagers. 

The village continues to launch various campaigns to maintain its cleanliness and build on the success of the 'Give Plastic, Get Gold' initiative.
