A few artisans of West Bengal have decided to sculpt an idol of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee which will be displayed at the Durga Puja in Kolkata this year.

Mamata Banerjee's deity-like sculpture
Famous clay modeller Mintu Pal is sculpting the fibreglass idol of the West Bengal CM at his Kumartuli studio and will drape a white coloured tant saree on the statue. Banerjee's trademark flip-flop slippers will also be reflected in the deity-like sculpture, PTI reported.

Mamata Banerjee's idol to have 10 hands
The TMC supremo's idol will have ten hands which instead of holding weapons, will depict schemes of the state government including projects like Kanyashree, Swastha Sathi, Rupashree, Sabujsathi and Lakshmir Bhandar among others. Pal told PTI that the organisers of the Durga Puja want to tell people about the various universally acclaimed development projects launched by her government.

Clay modeller Mintu Pal told PTI, "I have studied photos and videos of honorable CM as reference point. The way she walks, speaks, interacts with the public, while moulding the face of the idol."

Opposition unhappy over West Bengal CM's "god-like" depiction
BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari slammed West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over the idol and tweeted, "When someone tries to elevate you to God's stature only to please you & your silence indicates consent, it means your ego has reached a point where conscience can't hold it accountable."
