At the age of 62, business tycoon Rakesh Jhunjhunwala passed away in Mumbai on August 14, 2022. He was often referred to as Warren Buffett of India. He was a chartered accountant as well as a trader. He served as the chairman of both Aptech and Hungama Media. He served on the boards of Viceroy Hotels, Concord Biotech, Provogue India, and Geojit Financial Services, among other companies.
Rahul Bajaj
Rahul Bajaj, the former chairman of the Bajaj Group and an advocate for the Indian auto sector, passed away in February of this year at the age of 83. Son of Jamnalal Bajaj, he seized control of Bajaj Auto in 1968 and expanded it to 40 companies, including Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, and Bajaj Holdings and Investment, which have a combined market valuation of more than Rs 8.4 lakh crore.
Cyrus Mistry
At the age of 54, businessman and former chairman of the Tata Group Cyrus Mistry passed away in an automobile accident in September of this year. Prior to his 2012 appointment as chairman of Tata Sons, Mistry served as MD of the large construction company Shapoorji Pallonji. He founded a venture capital firm in 2018 following his contentious termination from Tata Sons in 2016.
Jamshed J Irani
Jamshed J Irani, dubbed "India's Steel Man," passed away in October 2022 at the age of 86. In 1968, he joined Tata Steel (then known as Tata Iron and Steel Company). For the following 33 years, he remained at the company and helped it become one of the most cost-effective makers of steel in the world. Additionally, he served on the boards of other organisations outside of the Tata Group.
Vikram Kirloskar
Vikram Kirloskar, vice chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, passed away in November at the age of 64. The industrialist belonged to the Kirloskar Group, which was established in 1888, as a member of the fourth generation. He had a significant hand in importing Toyota Motor from Japan to India. One of the biggest automotive factories in India is the Toyota manufacturing facility close to Bengaluru.
Arij Pirojshaw Khambata
Arij Pirojshaw Khambata, the founder and chairman of the well-known beverage company Rasna, passed away in November of this year at the age of 85. Arij Pirojshaw Khambata developed his father Firoza Khambata's tiny company into Ariz, the largest concentrate manufacturer in the world, with operations in more than 60 nations. In the 1970s, he produced Rasna soft drink packets.
Tulsi Tanti
At the age of 64, Tulsi Tanti, the chairman and managing director of Suzlon Energy, passed away in October 2022. Tanti was largely regarded as the leader of India's wind energy revolution. In 1995, he established Suzlon Energy. Suzlon established R&D facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and India as a result of his vision.
Dr. MM Ramachandran
Dr. MM Ramachandran, also known as Atlas Ramachandran, passed away in Dubai in October of this year at the age of 80. The businessman who is also a film producer launched his gold jewellery line in 1981. The Atlas Jewellery Group had a $1 billion revenue for the fiscal year that ended in 2014.
