Dia Mirza opens up on her return to acting after 6 long years and how Bollywood has changed

New Delhi: Former beauty queen Dia Mirza cuts a pristine and pretty picture. The gorgeous actor-producer, who stayed away from acting for 6 long years is now all gung-ho about her upcoming venture 'Sanju'. In an interview with Bhawna Munjal of Zee News, Dia opened up on her break from acting and how the film industry has changed over the years.

The actress said that in the male-dominated film industry, it's quite difficult for actresses to get a fair deal in terms of meatier roles. She said as soon as an actress turns 30, it's only a certain type of roles that come her way.

She maintained that as far as male actors are concerned, they marry early and then their career kickstarts, however, for female stars it kind of takes a back seat post marriage. Dia revealed that several male actors have their own production houses and they act as well. But when she started her own production house named 'Born Free Entertainment' at 26, people warned her that it might give a hint that she is no longer interested in acting.

Dia believes that women are better at multi-tasking and people should not be judgemental.

She, however, feels that the game is changing now which has a lot to do with the kind of film choices being made by female actors, female-centric scripts and the willingness to work after marriage. Dia lauded actresses such as Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor a and Kareena Kapoor Khan who have set the benchmark quite high.

Dia produced a female-centric film 'Bobby Jasoos' starring Vidya Balan in 2014.

The pretty actor-producer was away for a long hiatus of 6 years and opened up on her ordeal saying, "Because as an artist, you feel alive only when you are in front of the camera and even though I was making public appearances at that time, I produced two films then but did not act in the Hindi films. So, that was a very scary experience for me because people keep asking the same question wherever you go; when is your next film coming, why are you not seen in movies, we miss you."

But now Dia is back to the silver screens and will be seen in Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Sanju'. The film is a biopic based on the controversial life of superstar Sanjay Dutt. Dia will be seen playing his wife Maanayata Dutt on-screen. It also stars Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in pivotal parts.

The film is releasing on June 29, 2018, and is directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
