New Delhi: The Patiala House Court in Delhi court issued non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya on Friday for allegedly evading summons in a FERA violation matter. Mallya has scant regard for the law of the land and has no intention to return to India, said the court.

The court had earlier asked the liquor baron to appear in person in the FERA violation matter. The counsel of the Enforcement Directorate Advocate N K Datta, opposed Mallya’s plea seeking exemption from personal appearance and said that Mallya can avail travel documents if he wants to come back and doe not necessarily need activation of passport.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had revoked liquor baron Vijay Mallya's passport in April, as a measure to pressurize him to return to India.

The court, on July 9, cancelled the exemption from personal appearance granted to the liquor baron and directed him to appear before it on September 9. On September 9, Mallya’s counsel moved an application saying that Mallya was unable to make a personal appearance as his passport was revoked.

The court added that Vijaya Mallya's claim that he wants to return to India but his passport has been revoked was malafide and abuse of process.

The court issued another non-bailable warrant against Mallya in a 2012 cheque bounce case lodged by DIAL.

PMLA court has already issued non-bailable warrant Mally in April. Delhi's Patiala House Court, in August, also issued non-bailable warrants against absconding the liquor baron in a cheque bounce case.
