New Delhi: Black Friday signals the commencement of the holiday shopping season leading upto Christmas in US and is known for extreme discounts.

In United states, Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day that falls on the fourth Thursday of November.

Since early 2000s, Black Friday sales gained prominence as major retailers open very early, the recent phenomenon being opening during overnight hours. These retailers offer host of promotional sales.

In US a lot of non-retail employees and schools have holiday on both Thanksgiving and the following Friday. Clubbed with regular weekend in the following day, it makes a four-day weekend.

Data have shown that it has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year since last ten years.
